DECODABLE BOOKS

Reading in a Bookstore

Decodable books are simple stories created specifically for students to practice the phonics patterns (letter:sound correspondence) they have learned at school. These books are carefully written so that early readers can sound out most-but not all- of the words in the book. Your child will practice the same phonics pattern many times within the book and soon it will become automatic for them. This will help them build their accuracy, fluency and confidence as a reader!

The decodable books below are sorted by specific phonics concepts. To help pick the right book, you might ask your child’s teacher, “What phonics pattern is my child working on right now? What letter:sound correspondence would it be helpful to practice at home?”
